'Learned Helplessness' ... a state that occurs after people experience a stressful situation repeatedly. The stress they experience makes them seriously believe that they are unable to cope, control or change the situation, so they do not try — even when opportunities for change become available. They wait with futile hope for divine interventions but do not get into action.
